Learning Buddy
Overview (short introduction to the method):
A buddy system at workplace helps staff bond, make friends, communicate, and learn from each other. It involves teaming up individuals at work in order to make them more efficient. In many ways the buddy system is similar to the mentoring. However, a buddy system is a less formal arrangement and generally applies to two people of equal standing who help each other to learn and progress at work. In a mentoring relationship, a more experienced or knowledgeable person is assigned to guide and support the other person to achieve a particular goal.

A buddy system helps new staff to develop their skills through social interaction and informal learning. Helps new employees fit in and integrate faster, it boosts productivity and it can reduce staff turnover.

A manager may assign or suggest a learning buddy to an employee, or the employee can choose a buddy themselves. A buddy should be competent, available, accessible and willing to fulfil such role.
