Self-directed learning

Self-directed learning originates from adult education and can be described as a learning process in which the key element is the learner's conscious acceptance of responsibility for the learning. Highly self-directed learners are able to determine their learning needs, set goals, seek out a variety of resources for learning, reflect throughout the process, and evaluate their learning. The evaluation often begins a new cycle of learning. Self-directed learning has many forms and can be formal, non-formal, or informal. It is one of the best strategies to be developed at workplace in order to support workers’ professional and personal development, contribute to building a learning culture, increase productivity and meet the needs of the changing and evolving world of work.
